ABOUT

Mr. Montante has over forty years of experience successfully operating innovative companies in diverse fields such as automotive service, tire wholesale distribution, and commercial real estate development. While earning a law degree from the University at Buffalo, he began to manage Broad Elm, a chain of auto service centers founded in 1935 by his grandfather and father. In 1967, Mr. Montante co-founded Unibrand Tire, which quickly grew to be a $36 million wholesale tire business and one of the premier automotive groups in Western New York. To accommodate the growth of the automotive group, Mr. Montante managed the design and construction of a 50,000 sq. ft. warehouse facility, marking a successful start to a career in real estate development. He would go on to co-found Uniland Development Co. in 1974. During Mr. Montante’s ownership, Uniland developed millions of square feet of commercial space in Western New York. He remained a partner until 1997, when he retained sole ownership of Broad Elm and founded Broad Elm Management, a real estate development company. Mr. Montante is passionate about Western New York and founded the non-profit Makeda Corporation in 2003. Its largest project, People’s Park, is located in Buffalo. The community park hosts public gardens, private planting boxes, and an amphitheater for small concerts. It is utilized by neighborhood schools for arts and science classes and features weekly children’s reading sessions with Project Literacy volunteers.
