Rich MacDonald

Rich MacDonald serves as Chief Operating Officer at The Hinman Company, where he oversees a diverse portfolio of more than 3 million square feet of commercial office, retail, and residential properties. With over three decades at the company, Rich plays a key leadership role in shaping Hinman’s long-term strategy and operational execution. Since joining the firm in the late 1980s, Rich has held several leadership positions, including Vice President and Director of Investments, and Asset Manager. He has been instrumental in the company’s growth across Michigan, particularly in the Grand Rapids market, where he helped assemble and stabilize 400,000 square feet of multi-tenant office space. His work has spanned development, leasing, financial analysis, municipal approvals, and construction management. Rich holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Finance from Western Michigan University’s Haworth College of Business and studied at the University of Detroit Mercy. He is a licensed real estate broker in the State of Michigan and holds the Senior Certified Leasing Specialist designation from ICSC. An active member of the business and civic community, Rich serves on the boards of Southwest Michigan First and Mercantile Bank. He is also involved with industry organizations including BOMA and CCIM.
