Mike Stone is the Founder and Managing Member of FS Investors. He currently serves as Chief Investment Officer of The Rise Fund, a $2.0 billion global, evidence-based impact fund, and as a Senior Advisor and Partner of TPG, a private equity firm. He was Founder and Chairman of J.H. Whitney Investment Management, LLC, and he is retired Managing Partner and President of J.H. Whitney & Co., a diversified manager of alternative investment assets and the country's first venture capital firm. He joined J.H. Whitney & Co. in 1989 and retired in 2009. Prior to that, he was a management consultant with Bain & Company. In his roles at FS Investors, TPG, and Whitney, he has overseen or been involved with the completion of over 250 investments, cumulatively responsible for overseeing in excess of $15 billion dollars of private equity capital deployment. Mr. Stone has created and operates active foundations focused on improving the lives of communities in need and particularly children within those communities. He attended Duke University, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa, Summa Cum Laude, and Harvard Business School. Mr. Stone is a member of the San Diego Chapter of YPO Gold and is on the Boards of The Fuqua School of Business at Duke University and The Library Advisory Board at Duke University. He is Chairman of the Board of Wilderness Holdings. He serves on the Board of Directors of several private companies. He is on the Madison Council at the Library of Congress, the Dean’s Advisory Council at The Rady School of Business at UCSD, the Board of Advisors for the Norman B. Leventhal Map Center at the Boston Public Library, the Board of Overseers of The Scripps Research Institute, and Harvard University’s Committee on University Resources. Mr. Stone previously served on the Boards of The Bishop’s School, The Gillispie School, The Monarch School Project, The San Diego Museum of Art, and The University of San Diego School of Business.
