Lal Varghese

Attorney Lal Varghese restricts his legal practice in the area of U.S. Immigration Law. Having completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Science (B.Sc.), Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B.), Master’s Degree in English Literature (M. A.), and Master’s Degree in Psychology (M. A.), he was admitted to practice by the Bar Council of Kerala as an Advocate in the State of Kerala, India in 1978, and practiced there for 11 years before immigrating to the US. He is an alumnus (1970-1973) of the Union Christian College, Aluva, Kerala, India. Attorney Lal Varghese, is admitted to practice as an attorney in Texas by the Supreme Court of Texas, and before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas since 1992. He is still licensed in Kerala, India to practice in any court. He has been practicing as an attorney for the past 43 years, out of which he is been practicing immigration law for the last 30 years in Dallas, Texas. Attorney Lal Varghese is a member of several legal and professional associations including the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), American Bar Association (ABA), National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA), National South Asian Bar Association (NASABA), Indian-American Bar Association, State Bar Of Texas, Dallas Bar Association, Dallas Asian American Bar Association (DAABA), and Texas Chapter of American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). He also volunteers his time as a mentor for other US immigration lawyers through AILA. He served as a member in the Editorial Board of ’Mar Thoma Messenger’, a Diocesan publication. He is a member of the Legal Affairs Committee of the Diocese and also as Legal Counsel for the Diocese of North America & Europe of the Mar Thoma Church, a protestant Christian church believed to have been be found by St. Thomas, Apostle of Jesus Christ in A. D 52 in Kerala, India. He served as part-time lecturer in law at St. Thomas College, Kozhencherry. He was the co-editor of “Church Journeying with Christ”, a silver jubilee publication of the Diocese of North America and Europe (2013). He also served as the co-editor of “Expanses of Grace”, a book published by the Diaspora FOCUS on the birth centenary of The Most Revd Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan (2017) and as the co-editor of the Festschrift Volume: “An Ecumenical Journey Towards Transformation”, published by the Diocese of North America and Europe on the Episcopal silver jubilee of The Rt. Revd Dr. Isaac Mar Philoxenos Episcopa (2018). He is also serving as a member of the Editorial Board of FOCUS, on line magazine published for Diaspora Christians for the since April 2013. Attorney Lal Varghese, has recently published a book titled "Continuing the Faith Journey" consisting of articles relating to Biblical themes written by me during the past 25-30 years which has been released by Rt. Rev. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Theodosius Suffragan Metropolitan of the Mar Thoma Church on Oct. 2, 2020 at Poolatheen Chapel, Thiruvalla by giving a copy to Rt. Rev. Dr. Isaac Mar Philoxenos Episcopa, Diocesan Bishop of the Diocese of North America and Europe of the Mar Thoma Church. The release of the book was held after the thanksgiving Holy Communion service on the occasion of the 13th anniversary of the installation of Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma as 21st Mar Thoma of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church. The occasion was also a thanksgiving of the 27th year of installation as Episcopas of Joseph Mar Barnabas, Thomas Mar Timotheos and Isaac Mar Philoxenos Episcopas. The book was edited by Dr. Zac Varghese, London and printed by Vettathu Digital, Thiruvalla and published by FOCUS, an organization formed in the late nineties in London for Diaspora Christians from India. The cover photo of the book is captured by his older son Melvin Varghese, Ph.D., whose hobby is nature photography. The entire sales proceeds from the book will be donated to the "Light to Life' mission project of the Diocese of North America and Europe of the Mar Thoma Church for helping the children studying in Grama Jyothi schools of the villages in North India. Attorney Lal Varghese also has started a YouTube channel for educating the general public about the U. S Immigration laws.
