Founder of Protean Capital, an early stage venture capital group. Prior to this, Kurt was global Chief Investment Officer of RREEF the Real Estate investment management business of Deutsche Bank. Over his career, Kurt has held several senior positions within RREEF/Deutsche Bank including CEO Asia and Managing Director. Kurt is a highly accomplished private equity investment professional with global experience in real estate and alternative assets. Kurt founded Protean Company in 2013. It is an entrepreneurial and venture capital platform focused on transformative technologies across the built environment. Protean Company’s portfolio is a triple bottom line (people, planet and profits) investor. Prior to Protean Kurt was the Global Chief Investment Officer of RREEF Alternative Investments, the investment management division of Deutsche Bank responsible for real estate, infrastructure and private equity investments where he had oversight of $65 billion of assets under management in over 30 countries in North America, Europe and Asia. As Chief Investment Officer he engineered, implemented and supervised an entirely new approach toward RREEF’s investment management philosophy and practice, including its approach toward portfolio construction, transaction execution, risk management and sustainability. Earlier in his career at RREEF, he served as Chief Executive Officer of RREEF Asia Pacific, a $10 Billion business, and Regional Head of RREEF Opportunistic Investments for Asia Pacific and the Americas, a $4 Billion business. He began his real estate career at Trammell Crow Company where he managed the development of a 750,000 square foot office park. He is or has been a member of PREA, AFIRE, CNU, Wharton's Zell/Lurie Real Estate Center, and the Urban Land Institute where he has served on its Japan Council and Global Exchange Council. He has been a frequent lecturer in the real estate related master degree programs of Harvard University, The Wharton School, The Kellogg School and New York University Kurt holds a BA from Columbia University and MBA from The Wharton School. He lives in Manhattan with his wife and four children.
