John is a native of Falmouth, Maine, who attended Falmouth schools and achieved perfect attendance for all 13 years. After obtaining a Business Administration degree from the University of Southern Maine, he took the pre-licensing courses that enabled him to apply those credits to get his Broker’s license in 1985. After renovating several properties, he found that he enjoyed real estate enough to activate his license and make a living out of it. In 1986, he started his real estate career at Century 21 Balfour and was rookie of the year. Being community-minded, he has dedicated much of his time to local and non-profit organizations by serving on their boards and committees. He is presently the Vice President of the Cumberland Club, and on the Board of Directors for both the Victoria Mansion and The Frannie Peabody Center. As a former national competitive figure skater, he continues to be involved at local ice arenas, offering his coaching skills for both competitive skaters and learn-to-skate programs. He has also served on the board of both the Portland Board of Realtors and the Maine Association of Realtors and believes it's important to give back to the organizations that support their industry. He presently lives on the West End of Portland with Dan Kennedy, his partner of 28 years, in an 1876 Italianate Victorian that was recently featured on HGTV’s “What You Get for The Money.” They also have a summer home in Ogunquit.
