John Cleary is a seasoned commercial real estate expert with over a decade of experience in the Chicago market. Since becoming a licensed agent in 2003 and joining @properties in 2006, John has helped clients identify high-performing investment properties that appreciate over time—regardless of market conditions. John’s career includes time at Equity Lifestyle Properties Inc. (NYSE: ELS), a leading REIT with interests in over 275 communities across North America. His background in finance, with a B.A. in Management Accountancy from the Dublin Institute of Technology, and memberships in the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and the American Institute of CPAs, give him a unique edge in evaluating investment opportunities. Originally from Dublin, Ireland, John moved to Chicago in 1995 and has since owned and managed multiple properties in Andersonville, Edgewater, and Ravenswood. He specializes in development land and marketing new construction condos on the city’s North Side. His strong banking relationships and talent for uncovering distressed and bank-owned properties have delivered exceptional returns for his investor clients. Beyond real estate, John has opened and operated several successful Chicago bars and restaurants, including Hemingway’s Brass Rail, Cleary’s on Clark, and Fado Irish Pub. He and his wife Trish enjoy restoring historic properties and spending time with their two children.
