John has thirty-four years of experience in institutional commercial real estate and brokerage. During his long career, John has held asset management, acquisitions, dispositions, and debt origination roles before joining the State of Alabama as its Director of Leasing Managent. In that role, John provides guidance and oversight to all state agencies with leased commercial space, including space owned by the state as well as by third party owners/landlords. John has been involved with well over $3.5B of leasing and investment sale transactions, primarily in the retail and office asset classes, in the U.S. and in western Europe. John has worked for national firms such as LNR Property Corporation, Mutual of New York, Grubb & Ellis and LaSalle Advisors. He started his career with John Portman & Associates. Portman is a worldwide-known architect/developer that was responsible for the development of some of Atlanta's most iconic properties, but has built famous projects all over the world. John has transactional experience throughout the U.S. and western Europe. He was a key team member in the acquisition of France Telecom's real estate portfolio in 2002. In his roles with the State of Alabama, he has responsibility for a portfolio of leases totaling 10 million square feet.
