James C. In 1972, he served as the Vice President and Sales Manager for Iowa Realty and opened sales offices in the Des Moines area. In 1981, he started his own companies, the Conlin Companies, which were subsequently sold to First Realty in 1984. In 1986, he again started his own real estate companies, and formed Regency Management, the property management company, which was subsequently renamed Conlin Properties, Inc., in 2000. This company, headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa, currently manages over 4,000 residential units in Iowa, as well as 250,000 square feet of commercial space. In addition, he started The Phoenix Group, Ltd., which was renamed Conlin Construction, also in 2000. This company has completed single-family land development, multi-family construction and commercial construction in excess of $50 million. Finally, in 1991, Mr. Conlin began development of affordable housing units with 24 units in southwest Des Moines, and has subsequently completed eighteen tax credit developments throughout Central Iowa. These Section 42 projects are developed through Conlin Development, constructed by Conlin Construction, and long-term management is completed by Conlin Properties, Inc. Mr. Conlin serves as General Partner for all projects. Mr. Conlin's personal real estate portfolio includes over 1,500 units of market rate and affordable housing units, as well as commercial and industrial properties. He and his wife, attorney Roxanne Barton Conlin, live in Des Moines.
