Geoffrey Newman

Geoffrey Newman joined Newmark Grubb Knight Frank as a sVice Chairman in the New York headquarters, adding to the roster of industry leaders forming the firm's tenant representation platform. Mr. Newman brings a broad scope of brokerage capabilities with a unique focus on universities and not-for-profit organizations. He has also represented multinational companies from a wide range of industries, including DHL and Cravath, Swaine & Moore in two of the largest New York transactions in the last decade. Mr. Newman was formerly a managing director at Studley, where he led one of the most respected and creative teams in the industry, developing and leasing over 5 million square feet of commercial property. Mr. Newman's team developed a specialty practice serving New York's universities and not-for-profit organizations in addition to managing complex construction and redevelopment projects. Select clients included SUNY College of Optometry, The City University of New York (CUNY), The Lois and Samuel Silberman Fund, the American Red Cross, the American Civil Liberties Union, the New School University and the National Audubon Society. SELECT TRANSACTIONS New School University: Completed multiple transactions including the development of a 205-person build-to-suit dormitory and a new 343,000-square-foot University Center, the leasing of 194,300 square feet at 79 Fifth Avenue as part of a major campus expansion, the structuring and subsequent sale of a leasehold condominium retail space on Fifth Avenue, and the air rights transfer and zoning lot merger at Fifth Avenue and 14th Street, among others. The Lois and Samuel Silberman Fund/CUNY's School of Social Work at Hunter College: The winner of the Real Estate Board of New York's 2009 Most Ingenious Commercial Deal of the Year Award, this complex transaction involved the relocation of the school from 129 East 79th Street and the construction of a new $135 million facility at 118th Street and Third Avenue. DHL: Structured a 20-year net lease of the entire 250,000-square-foot building at 500 Tenth Avenue in a deal valued at more than $181 million - one of the highest valued Manhattan transactions of 2005.The complex transaction involved the buyout of two existing tenants, the management of the city's west side rezoning and the complete reconstruction of the building's interior including hazardous waste removal and permitting. American Red Cross: Executed the $72 million sale of the existing property at 66th Street and Amsterdam Avenue, and the relocation to and renovation of the property at 520 West 49th Street. Prior to his career in New York, Mr. Newman worked as a lobbyist in Washington, D.C. He also spent two years as a legislative assistant on Capitol Hill as part of the House Judiciary Committee, directly responsible to its chairman. Mr. Newman is involved with various not-for-profit organizations and founded an organization that resettles Africans in the United States. Mr. Newman graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a Bachelor of Science in political science.
