Dean Hunter, widely recognized as “Mr. Small Multifamily,” is the visionary behind SmallMultifamily.com, the first and only digital ecosystem built specifically for small apartment building owners, operators, and investors. The platform serves as the home for the “small multifamily movement”—bringing together advocacy, education, deal flow, and capital to empower everyday housing providers. The SmallMultifamily.com platform is powered by three mission-driven arms: The Small Multifamily Owners Association (SMOA) – the leading voice for small landlords and rental housing providers in Washington, D.C. and beyond The Small Multifamily Institute – a nonprofit think tank advancing education, research, and policy to support naturally occurring affordable housing (NOAH) The Small Multifamily Group – a boutique real estate investment sales and advisory firm specializing in small and mid-sized apartment building transactions Dean is a seasoned commercial real estate broker, former attorney, and national advocate for housing equity. Utilizing Ten-X, Hunter has direct access to a nationwide platform and a vast database of ready-to-buy multifamily investors. He uses this reach to connect property owners to motivated, qualified buyers—helping them maximize value, minimize taxes, and close deals with speed and discretion. Through The Small Multifamily Group, Dean has advised hundreds of owners on successful exit strategies, equity protection, and legacy-building decisions. His reputation is built on trust, deep market knowledge, and fierce commitment to getting the best outcome for his clients. Dean holds a J.D. from Howard University School of Law and a B.A. in Political Science from American University. He also holds certifications in Community Development Finance from Novogradac and the UNH Carsey School of Public Policy. He currently serves as Community Development Finance Consultant at Krimson Capital Partners, where he helps structure capital stacks for affordable housing, healthcare, and clean energy projects across the country. Dean is also the executive producer of the upcoming documentary series Rent Burdened: The Fight to Save Affordable Housing, serves as Associate Minister at New Bethel Baptist Church, and is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
