A Seattle native, Bruce graduated from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California with a degree in Business Administration. Since 1971, he has been actively involved in his family’s construction and barge terminal business, gaining extensive expertise in both operations and client relations. Bruce’s core professional strength lies in his ability to foster mutual trust and respect in environments often marked by disagreement and dissent. His leadership and conflict-resolution skills were recognized through his appointments as Management Chairman for both Governor Edgar’s State Labor Management Council and the Peoria Area Labor Management Council (PALM). His background in facilitation, negotiation, and arbitration has consistently delivered value across private, public, and nonprofit sectors. In addition to his construction background, Bruce has extensive experience in real estate, particularly in the leasing, sale, and purchasing of properties for Family Land Trusts and Partnerships. His client list includes high-profile organizations such as Caterpillar, AMEREN/CILCO, Cat World Trade, Hagerty Steel, ADM, ARTCO, R.A. Cullinan & Sons, Seneca Petroleum, Peoria Blacktop, and various municipalities including the City of Peoria and the City of East Peoria. Bruce collaborates closely with Joe Gehrig, a Devonshire Commercial agent with a CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member) designation, to provide clients with expert, coordinated service. Community Involvement and Leadership Bruce is an active and respected civic leader. He has served in leadership roles on numerous boards, including: Chairman: Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce, TRICON, PALM, Peoria Workforce Development, and Foundation for Fair Contracting Boards Board Member: Peoria Civic Federation, Heartland Partnership Current Roles: Chairman of the Methodist Medical Center Board, Vice Chairman of the Economic Development Council (EDC) Board, and member of the Commerce Bank Advisory Board, Illinois Central College Foundation Board, and the Medina Plan Commission Bruce has also been a dedicated volunteer with Easter Seals for over fourteen years, serving both on its Board and Executive Board. Personal Life Bruce is married to Patricia (Finch) Alkire, a residential realtor with Coldwell Banker Devonshire. Together, they have two children—Brett (married to Sarah Frary Alkire) and Alicia—and enjoy the company of their two beloved grandchildren.
