A Piece of History in The Heart of Whitby, an Architectural gem, one of the finest houses in Whitby with History dating back to 1840s. Famous previous Owners being John Thomson and Jim Flaherty.
Mayfield, built for Scottish settler John Thompson, in 1845, is a unique house in Whitby, for it is built entirely of limestone blocks imported from Kingston, Ontario. The Limestone was brought to Whitby by grain merchant John Welsh in the 1840s because he needed ballast in his boats which had shipped Whitby grain to Kingston. It is likely that the stone was cut by prisoners at the Kingston Penitentiary.
Mayfield is the only house in Whitby built entirely of Kingston limestone, still in its original condition.
