The TR Produce Building—also known historically as the Wellman-Peck Building / T.R. Produce Warehouse—is a standout survivor of San Diego’s former produce-and-warehouse era in today’s East Village. As part of the broader preservation effort that helped shape the Historic Warehouse District, the building became a notable example of adaptive reuse done right: a contemporary structure was designed to be suspended above and not attached to the historic warehouse, protecting key original elements like the roofline and clerestory lighting.
Located on the block bounded by J Street, Island, 8th Avenue, and 9th Avenue—and widely marketed as directly adjacent/across from Petco Park—the project has been credited as a milestone in the neighborhood’s transformation, blending industrial brick character with modern loft-style creative office uses.
