The Port Workspaces at the Kaiser Mall in Uptown Oakland is a workspace completely re-envisioned to embrace the extraordinary creative, collaborative energy that is thriving in Oakland’s entrepreneurial community. As with our other historic properties, we’ve injected ingenuity and artistry to turn a mid-century former shopping mall property adjacent to Lake Merritt into a 47,000 square foot campus.
Kaiser Mall offers a combination of private and shared workspaces, event space, and facilities and amenities not found anywhere else under one roof – and available to all members!. A three-story office/retail building adjacent to Kaiser Center was completed in 1963. The building's roof garden was designed by San Francisco-based landscape architecture firm, Theodore Osmundson & Associates, and was the first built in the United States after World War II. According to a National Park Service study, Edgar commissioned the architecturally significant rooftop garden after the building had been designed, inspired by the gardens of Rockefeller Center in N.Y.
The private terrace with a distinctive tiki hut overlooking Lake Merritt is an Oakland jewel.
