Built in 1912, the Burns Building was the corporate headquarters for Pat Burns’ empire, Burns Foods. The ground level provided retail space for Burns’ meat market. The seven-storey building is situated on two lots in the central business district of downtown Calgary and embodiesthe Chicago style of architecture with grid-like fenestration pattern, terracotta elements and prominent cornice. The Burns Building underwent extensive renovations between 1981 and 1984 and was designated a Provincial Heritage Resource in 1987. Allied Properties REIT purchased the building in 2011 and have since restored and upgraded the building.
