Site has a cofferdam built in 1977-78 as part of flood protection system around the plant that included the cofferdam, concrete walls on the east side of the plant and earthen dikes. The gates in the cofferdam could be used to control water level in the intake forebay (inside the cofferdam). Also, during storm events the gates could be closed to prevent flooding from rising water in the ship channel. The permit for thecofferdam will be transferred and the cofferdam can be removed.
