This charming space is located in a walkable area of downtown Batesburg that is experiencing renewed interest and revitalization with many stores opening down the street from this space and on adjacent downtown streets. This space is unique in that it includes a large outdoor area behind the building that may be used by the tenant to expand their business to include outside seating or to use for special events. This revitalization effort stems from planned upgrades like improved sidewalks, better lighting, and more parking spaces, addressing issues such as cracked sidewalks and abandoned buildings. The Town's 2020 revitalization master plan includes provisions for these enhancements, aiming to incorporate visual and performing arts into the historic downtown districts. On August 9th 2025 the Batesburg-Leesville Brew Fest will occur, with more festivals proposed in the upcoming months.
In addition to physical improvements, the master plan proposes creating new parks and improved streetscapes to enhance the downtown area's appeal, along with strengthening connectivity to places like the historic Haynes Auditorium via a new linear park. The revitalization also seeks to position Batesburg-Leesville to attract new businesses and investors, boosting the local economy.
This initiative is already showing signs of success, with new businesses opening in the revitalized areas. Batesburg-Leesville also recently received federal funding through the Safe Streets and Roads for All grant program to create an action plan for further walkability and safety improvements in both downtowns. These improvements will focus on traffic calming measures, wider sidewalks, and raised pedestrian crossings. While construction is still a ways off, these initiatives are generating positive momentum and a renewed sense of optimism in the community.
