The primary goal of the Glenbrook Village Master Plan is to create a diverse and integrated mixed-use community with activated retail, townhome residential, and condominium residential. Building placement and vehicular areas should be designed with the consideration of pedestrian circulation throughout each development use. The key is how the vehicle and pedestrian co-exist successfully wherein businesses and lifestyle both thrive. A thoughtful pedestrian system linking the entire community not only encourages healthy habits, but also creates lively interactive streets. A pedestrian sidewalk system which links the neighborhood to the preserved green space will go a long way to promote a walkable development and pedestrian connections to the greater community. Site furnishings should include benches, bike racks, appropriate lighting, and street tree plantings to promote a walkable and bikeable community environment with a pedestrian focused scale. It is our responsibility as stewards of the land to respect and protect the natural environment to the fullest extent possible. Coexistence between the built environment and the natural environment minimizes negative impacts on established ecosystems and offers quality opportunities for interaction with nature. The vision for this development is centered around linking the adjacent communities and other developed areas with the natural preserved open space. The master plan reinforces these principles by providing an integrated sidewalk network, vast expanses of open space, and preserved native forest land.
