Originally called the Planter House, this three story Italiante building was built by Michael O’Connell for A.S. House in 1868 and was renamed Capital Hotel in 1871.

When the building opened in 1869 it housed a ground floor lobby, saloon, dining hall, and commercial kitchen with second and third floor hotel rooms.

Capital Hotel is now a prominent contributor to the historic district. It is the oldest remaining hotel building in Woodland and one of only a few remaining buildings dating to the first decade of the town’s history.

The ground floor has accommodated a variety of uses over the years saving the best use for the present and widely popular restaurant, The Burger Saloon.

The second floor has been built out for office space retaining the old world charm but adding modern finishes. There are three office spaces, one is a completely built out turnkey professional space, the other two spaces are open concept office areas, and beautiful common area restrooms complete the second floor.

The third floor consists of five custom residential lofts that range from 604 s.f. to 923 s.f. of open loft living. The lofts are a great blend of modern and historic with old exposed brick walls, bamboo floors and granite counters, and upgraded appliances including washer/dryers in each loft.

The rehabilitation goals included structural stabilization, restoring all remaining historic fabric, replacing the non-original structure at the rear of the building with a compatible addition that could be removed in the future without damaging the original structure, and maximizing viable commercial and residential space that meets the needs of modern users in a downtown shrinking in the wake of recent developments outside the town core.
