A comprehensive plan to modernize and expand 1200 Nineteenth Street began in October of 2007. Three floors were added to the building, increasing the rentable area of office space from approximately 210,000 to just over 311,000 square feet. The building’s HVAC system has been replaced with a highly efficient VAV system and new electrical distribution, life safety and security systems have been installed. The previously existing facade was replaced with a glass curtain wall and the ground floor exterior, main entrance, lobby and elevator cabs have been significantly enhanced. The project includes a green roof and a fitness center. Substantial completion was achieved in June 2009.

The project was initially recognized as "Designed to earn Energy Star" with a design rating of 99 out of 100 points, earning it a spot among the top two percent of buildings nationwide for energy efficiency and in 2013 it was awarded the Energy Star Label. 1200 Nineteenth Street is one of the only four LEED-Platinum Core and Shell commercial buildings in Washington, DC.
